Custom Fly Rod Options

The options available on your custom fly rod are endless.  Our personal style tends toward more durable, clean designs.  We will work with you on any options you prefer as well as make suggestions to help you through the design process.  Below are some examples and options.  When you add a dublhawl custom rod to your shopping cart, we'll ask about your preferences for each category.

Blanks

We build our custom fly rods primarily using North Fork Composites fly rod blanks in the high performance category.  We especially like the NFC 8wt, 9wt, 10wt and 11wt blanks for saltwater species.  They are ultra light, durable, accurate, and have a great stealth sanded finish that provides an endless canvas for thread and finish options.  

All of our blanks have warranty backing from the factory.  If you break it, we'll work with the manufacturer to repair or replace, and will transfer your custom components to your new rod.

Cork

Cork is a beautiful natural material.  We hand turn all of our cork grips in our shop from cork sourced from Portugal.

Reel Seats

Our preferred reel seat options tend toward all metal, anodized aluminum reel seats.  We find that over time they have a durable style and meet a wide variety of needs. Anodized aluminum is bomb proof in fresh and salt water.  

Our preference is to use double lock nut reel seats for added reel security. 

Guides

For guides we use only titanium rod guides. Our preference is original REC guides, these are the most durable option you will find.  

For stripper guides, there are several titanium options, we prefer either Fuji and ALPS.

Personalization

We hand label our rods with the personal information of the owner.  Whatever you want, we'll put it on there for you.
